What is Reported Speech?

Reported speech is when we report or tell someone what another person has said. Unlike direct speech, which quotes someone's exact words, reported speech paraphrases or summarizes what was said.

Examples:

• Direct speech: He said, "I am going to the store."
• Reported speech: He said that he was going to the store.
